Employment Benefits in Poland

In Poland, employers are required to provide certain benefits to their employees. Employers must provide health insurance coverage for their employees, which is typically part of the social security contributions. Employers must contribute to the employee's retirement fund, which includes both the mandatory social security system (ZUS) and additional voluntary pension schemes. Annual Leave

Employees in Poland are entitled to paid annual leave based on their length of service. Employees with less than 10 years of service are entitled to 20 days of paid annual leave per year, while those with 10 or more years of service are entitled to 26 days of paid annual leave per year.

Sick Leave

Employees are entitled to sick leave, during which they receive sick pay. The first 33 days of sick leave in a calendar year are paid by the employer at 80% of the regular salary, while any additional sick leave is covered by the Social Security Institution (ZUS) at the same rate.

Additional Benefits

  • Maternity Leave: Female employees are entitled to 20 weeks of paid maternity leave, with the possibility of extending it up to 32 weeks under certain conditions.
  • Paternity Leave: Fathers are entitled to 2 weeks of paid paternity leave, which can be taken at any time during the first 24 months of the child’s life.
  • Parental Leave: Parents can take up to 32 weeks of parental leave, which can be shared between both parents.

Work Hours and Breaks

The standard workweek in Poland is 40 hours, typically divided into eight-hour days over five days. Employees are entitled to a 15-minute break if their workday is at least six hours long. Additionally, employees must have at least 11 hours of continuous rest within each 24-hour period and 35 hours of continuous rest within each seven-day period.
